His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, affirmed that the UAE is keen to support the efforts of the World Health Organization, aimed at combating the Corona pandemic, and containing its humanitarian and health repercussions, in addition to its support for international efforts to address diseases and epidemics in All over the world, based on its firm principles, and its inherent values ​​of cooperation and solidarity, and providing a helping hand to peoples in need, without discrimination, especially in times of crisis.

His Highness also confirmed that the UAE managed the crisis of the "Covid-19" pandemic, with efficiency and high potential, which contributed to limiting its spread, containing its effects and returning life to normal in light of the continuation of the national vaccination campaign, and guidance to provide it to everyone who lives in the land of the Emirates, and to take a package of measures Preventive and proactive, to preserve the health and safety of the community, which comes at the top of the state's priorities.

This came when His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received yesterday the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

His Highness and Dr. Tedros Adhanom, during the meeting, which took place at the Beach Palace, discussed relations of cooperation and joint coordination between the UAE, its health institutions, and the World Health Organization, and ways to develop it to achieve the common goals of both sides, serve the targeted communities, and contribute to improving their lives.

His Highness was briefed by Dr. Tedros about the organization's efforts, programs and health activities regionally and globally, aimed at confronting and eliminating infectious diseases... in addition to the developments of the "Covid-19" pandemic and the organization's efforts and cooperation with the international community in confronting it.

The Director-General of the World Health Organization praised the support of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and his humanitarian health initiatives that enhance the organization's efforts and programs in confronting and eliminating infectious diseases in various regions of the world, especially in poor communities, including the Emirates campaign for polio vaccination in Pakistan. And the “Reaching the Last Mile” initiative to eliminate river blindness and support international efforts to combat the Guinea worm and others, referring to the role of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, and his keenness to combat infectious diseases, and his cooperation with international organizations. Which has yielded significant success in combating many diseases in Africa.

He added that the UAE is one of the main supporters of the organization's programs and initiatives to eliminate epidemics and infectious diseases.

He also valued the UAE’s solidarity with the peoples of the world since the start of the Corona crisis, and the continuous assistance it provides to support the medical sectors and front-line workers in many countries, noting the importance of the state’s initiatives aimed at promoting health awareness, combating chronic and infectious diseases in various regions of the world, and their impact. It is important to improve their lives in all its aspects.

He also praised the flexibility and speed of the measures taken by the UAE in combating the "Corona" pandemic, so that it became one of the best countries in the world in dealing with the pandemic.

The meeting was attended by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Advisor for Special Affairs at the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, Minister of Health and Community Protection, Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs Abdul Rahman bin Muhammad Al Owais, and Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem bint Ibrahim Al-Hashemi, and Ali bin Hammad Al-Shamsi, Deputy Secretary-General of the Supreme National Security Council.

It is noteworthy that the management of the UAE Project to Aid Pakistan announced last October that the “UAE Campaign for Polio Vaccination” in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, during the period from 2014 until the end of September 2021, provided 583 million 240,876 doses of vaccination against polio. for more than 102 million Pakistani children.

The "Reaching the Last Mile" initiative also includes a group of projects concerned with global health issues. The initiative provides treatment and preventive care in communities that lack access to high-quality health services.

The initiative embodies the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and his commitment to the need to eliminate preventable diseases that affect the world's poorest and most vulnerable communities, and to help millions of children and adults lead healthy and dignified lives.

Niger's announcement of completing the necessary assessments to certify the eradication of "river blindness" is one of the most prominent achievements of the initiative and its partners in the fight against neglected tropical diseases.

These initiatives are considered an extended legacy for the UAE in combating these diseases. In 1990, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan offered the Carter Center, which deals with the control of neglected tropical diseases, a grant of several million dollars, to support efforts to eradicate Guinea worm disease. He was, may God have mercy on him, one of the first contributors to supporting the center's initiative.
