In the midst of a program full of events known for its culture and arts, Japan celebrated its National Day at Expo 2020 Dubai, by hoisting the flag of the guest country, along with the UAE flag in Al Wasl Square, with the playing of the national anthems of the two countries.

During the celebrations, the Japanese pavilion organized an entertainment agenda that presented Japan's many and varied traditions, as part of the pavilion's continued efforts aimed at introducing its country's culture.

The celebrations were witnessed by a delegation from Japan headed by the Japanese Ambassador to the UAE, Akio Isumata, who was received by the Minister of State for Technology, Sarah bint Yousef Al Amiri.

Sarah Al Amiri said: “We appreciate Japan’s commitment to establishing a pavilion at (Expo Dubai) that harnesses the latest technologies in order to provide content rich with elements of Japanese culture on the international event grounds. More sustainable through the exchange of ideas.

She added: "We are proud of what our relations with Japan have reached, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries, and we are proud of the great cooperation that exists between us on various levels: economic, cultural, scientific, educational and others. Japan has always been a reliable partner for us in our efforts to explore new horizons, and we believe We can work hand in hand to improve humanitarian conditions and preserve the progress that has been made in this field.”

For his part, Akio Isomata stressed the depth of relations between the two countries.

He said: “Bilateral relations between Japan and the UAE have developed over the past 50 years in various fields beyond long-term cooperation in the field of oil exploration and trade, such as infrastructure, renewable energy, aerospace, food, healthcare, tourism, sports and creative industries.

As our two countries celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, I believe that the further development of our relations is very important.”

The Japanese ambassador added: "I congratulate the UAE for hosting (Expo), the first event of its kind in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia, which attracts a large number of visitors from all over the world, in the country's golden jubilee year," noting that "this great organization shows Clearly, the (Coronavirus) pandemic cannot deter us from moving forward when we have a measure of wisdom and determination.”

The guests of the Japanese National Day witnessed an exceptional reception in an atmosphere that celebrates Japanese culture through all the main gates of "Expo 2020", and the Japanese taiko drums troupe led the guests into the world of the ancient traditions of Japan.

While students from the Japanese School in Dubai performed "Nancho Soran" to the rhythm of the Japanese folk song "Soran Boshi" at the sun platform.

The guests enjoyed the displays of Japanese calligraphy “Sumi-Yand Galicrovy” at the sea platform, as they watched an artist draw letters and pictures on large “washi” papers using ink and water, combining the traditional calligraphy called “Shodo” with the Asian art called “Soboku-ga.”

The ground stage witnessed an amazing display of Japanese martial arts "Aikido" by the "Zanshinkan Aikido Dubai" to give the guests a chance to see these techniques for which Japan is famous in fighting games.

The celebrations allowed visitors to explore the unique Japanese culture inside the Expo 2020 Dubai sites, as the performances expressed the rich Japanese culture that will host the next exhibition of “Expo 2025” in a scene that embodies a bridge connecting the world from Dubai in the UAE to Osaka - Kansai in Japan.

Guests followed a range of traditional performances, including ikbana, the Japanese art of flower arranging, and Go, a traditional abstract strategy game hosted by The Nihon Ki-in.

Japan's exceptional pavilion at Expo Dubai presents to the world a modern vision of the importance of cooperation for the development of culture, ideas and visions to create a better tomorrow. It bears the slogan "Where ideas meet", and impresses the audience with its diversity and distinctive content.

Important times

National and Honorary Days at Expo 2020 Dubai are important times to celebrate all the more than 200 international participants, highlighting their cultures and achievements, and displaying prominent features of their pavilions and programmes.

Expo 2020 Dubai will be organized until March 31, 2022, and invites visitors from all over the world to create a new world, in an exceptional celebration of human creativity, innovation, progress and culture that extends for six months.
