Given the security situation marked by an upsurge in attacks by armed terrorist groups, the President of Faso, Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, has opted for a sober commemoration, in memory of all the victims of terrorism.

The city of Ziniaré was supposed to host the rotating celebration but it was postponed until next year, in the hope of improving the security situation.

Also, in the capital, there is no sign that Burkina Faso is commemorating the 61st anniversary of its independence.

Unlike in previous years, it was a simple ceremony of taking up arms that punctuated this celebration, an option well received by the populations.

“

Faced with a situation where the country is, we can say, almost in tatters, it was necessary to do it in a sober way and even not to do it.

 "

“

Even in the years to come, we could continue this momentum, which is to say just doing symbolic things.

We are in a truly deplorable situation.

It affects all social classes.

 "

Justin Lompo, a lawyer by training and Moustapha Zeba, a student at the Josep ki-Zerbo University, believe that Burkina Faso must, before any commemoration, reconquer the parts of its territory abandoned in the hands of armed terrorist groups.

“

In the days to come, we are waiting for a capable government, a government of war.

There is no development if there is no peace and therefore, we ask the government that is going to settle down to concentrate all the necessary energies so that we can succeed in conquering our territory.

“

This new Prime Minister must first be able to prove himself and prove himself, that would mean that he can effectively appoint people of good will.

 "

The Burkinabè are only waiting for the formation of the future government of

Dr Lassina Zerbo, the brand new Prime Minister
