"Secretary of State Anthony Blinken met today with Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio on the sidelines of the meeting of the G7 foreign ministers," the statement said.
As noted, the parties discussed "common concern about the buildup of Russian military power on the borders of Ukraine" and stressed their support for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Blinken and the Italian foreign minister also agreed to continue close consultations with other NATO allies and EU partners.
Earlier, the US Secretary of State held talks with British Foreign Minister Elizabeth Truss and German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock.
