The wait was intense for the Supreme Court's ruling, which came on Friday, just over a month after it heard the arguments from both sides in the dispute.

The judges found that the state law has legal force.

The law prohibits abortion after cardiac activity has been noted in a fetus - which is about six weeks after conception.

The law entered into force on 1 September.

Extensive demonstrations against the law, but also for, have been carried out in Texas and also in other states.

The result is also seen as a small partial victory for clinics that provide abortion in the state.

The Supreme Court gives abortion clinics the right to try to stop the law through lawsuits in the state.

This has been done before, when a federal judge stopped the law.

But the Fifth Court of Appeal, the higher court, overturned the judge's decision.

Of the Supreme Court's nine judges, six have been appointed by Republican presidents.

Assessors follow HD's ruling closely, to see if the composition of judges is prepared to restrict the right to abortion at the national level.

US President Joe Biden has taken a personal stand for abortion law and put the Justice Department to review the law.
