According to the investigation, the defendants in the case received the phone numbers of people from the ads that they published on various Internet sites, after which they sent them SMS containing links to viruses.

“After the citizens opened the messages, special software was installed on their phones, with the help of which the defendants got access to the personal accounts of the victims in the mobile banking systems,” explained Volk.

Subsequently, they stole money, transferred it to their accounts and withdrew it in cash.

In September, Stanislav Zhurakovsky, an analyst at the company - developer of information security software for ESET, said that scammers stealing other people's mobile numbers have become more active in Russia.
