The blast is said to have taken place in a weapons depot belonging to the Islamist movement Hamas.
Security forces have ordered an investigation, according to a state news agency.
Hamas has a large presence in Palestinian camps in the area.
The EU, the United States, Britain and Canada classify the Hamas movement as terrorist.
