Carina Modin and Johan Nordh live in an apartment in Askim in Gothenburg.

Last summer, the last of the two sons had moved away from home, and they felt they had both the time and space to take care of a child.

- If you have it in you that you want to help and you have space, then it is a huge development both for the family and for yourself, says Carina Modin.

Great need for new ones

Finding new family homes has always been difficult, and this is how it has looked throughout the country, according to the Family Home Unit at the City of Gothenburg.

But in recent years, the corona pandemic has made it even more difficult.

Right now, the City of Gothenburg needs 100 new family homes.

- We have emergency homes and so on, it is not the case that there are a hundred children who have nowhere to be.

But we have a great need to get family homes so that they can move on to where they will live in the future, says Anna Forum who is head of the family home unit within the City of Gothenburg.

New family members

The two girls, who are ten years old, have now lived with the couple Modin / Nordh in Askim for almost a year.

Did you have any fears before taking on this task?

- No, we have received so much support and help.

You get courses and educations and so on.

And you do not have to be the best from the beginning, you get lessons along the way, says Carina Modin.
