highlighting the existence of a

looking for employers.

The problem, which is not limited to labor markets and education organizations in a particular country, but suffers from the majority of countries, was presented by the session on the role of higher education in promoting equality and well-being on the sidelines of the World Innovation Summit for Education “wise” held in the Qatari capital, Doha, under the title "Raise your voice...to build a future based on education."

Despite the minor differences that exist among higher education experts about the nature of this crisis, many of them agree that it was a reaction to the skills gap resulting from the emergence of modern and advanced technologies in the world, which was evident in the tendency of many institutions to select their new employees based on skills. which they possess.

Dr. Hassan Al-Derham, President of Qatar University, explains that higher education is the key to the success of any country at all levels, economic, social, scientific, and even political, but he stressed the need for universities to take the initiative to develop society and be proactive in creating policies and programs that qualify graduates for life and the labor market. .

Al-Dirham says to Al-Jazeera Net that there are a number of lawsuits that see that in light of the current knowledge and technology revolution there is no longer a need for universities, but this is not true at all, but universities must work to redefine their role in the next stage in light of the Great Industrial Revolution, until You can face this challenge in a positive way.

The session presented various ideas about the role of university education (Al-Jazeera)

The role of universities

He adds that universities must clearly redefine their role so that it conforms to the requirements of the labor market and the needs of countries at the same time, especially since many professions, jobs and specializations need a clear system for the method of education, and then work to educate students for their involvement in the needs of the labor market.

Al-Dirham stresses that we need more links and discussions between workers in the various industrial sectors and employers on the one hand, and universities on the other hand, so that the on-the-job learning method becomes part of the curriculum, which qualifies students in a sound and effective way.

He stresses that reconciling the skills of graduates with the skills required of employers requires the development of university programs and study plans, teaching and assessment methods, and training of professors on modern methods.

He explained that the digitalization of higher education means that a university degree no longer guarantees a person a job by itself, as this requires him to constantly learn new skills.

Many companies also consider that the participation of experts working in a professional field - in the development of educational programs of this kind - constitutes a validation on their part of the accuracy of these programs, which helps employers to assess their quality and efficiency.

For his part, Palestinian Minister of Education, Dr. Marwan Awartani, considers that the importance of higher education depends on its outcomes. Sometimes higher education is favorable and important, while other times it is not.

Awartani told Al Jazeera Net that the most important thing is that universities work to develop their university programs and training methods and methods to suit life and the labor market, as well as focusing on inter-programs that depend on life skills such as the ability to solve problems, the ability to communicate, and teach students other cultures with ability and without reservation .

learning ability

He stressed that the most important thing for students is their ability to learn continuously, as what they learn in universities with time becomes nothing, and therefore they should not stick to it without others, and that they have the ability to continuously renew, especially since the development and transformation of knowledge is very holistic.

Awartani believes that there is an incorrect understanding about reconciling the skills of graduates with the skills required by employers, especially that the work environment is multiple and different, and it is unreasonable for students to graduate with the skills of all different work environments, especially since it is a dilemma that no university will be able to achieve.

He asserts that the solution to this dilemma is the person himself, his ability to learn quickly and his possession of the qualifications with which he can achieve success in any work environment, which is what achieves the student wishing to learn with continuity, passion and confidence at the same time.

Although those in charge of the recruitment process in various companies will continue to believe that the university degree will retain its value in terms of the process of selecting new employees;

At the same time, they look forward to looking at this certificate in the future as a tool to be taken when evaluating a candidate for a job, rather than as a prerequisite for moving forward on this path.
