On December 8, local time, the new German Chancellor Schultz and all members of the new government cabinet were sworn in at the German Bundestag in Berlin.

In the afternoon of the same day, Schultz and Merkel held a handover ceremony at the Chancellery, and the new government was officially put into work.

On the same day, the German Bundestag elected Schultz as the Federal Chancellor of Germany with 395 votes of the "majority required for the election of the Chancellor".
