Penitentiary Institutions
has ordered the transfer of
another five members of ETA
to prisons in the Basque Country, so that 2021 will close with
a hundred members of the gang in the three prisons
managed by the Government of Iñigo Urkullu. All those transferred were sentenced to more than 20 years in prison for being
responsible for murders
(some attempted) and for
possession of weapons and explosives
. The five approaches take place after the announcement made by the ETA prisoner group that
no more public receptions will be held
when they leave prison after having served their sentences.
The Ministry of Fernando Grande-Marlaska has ordered the transfer to the three Basque prisons of
Zigor Blanco Santisteban, Lexuri Gallastegui Sodupe, Gorka Joseba Lupiañez Mintegui, José María Novoa Arroniz and Jon Joseba Troitiño Ciria
. Until now, these five ETA members were serving their sentences in the prisons of
Asturias, Zaragoza, León and Logroño,
but in the coming weeks they will be transferred to one of the three Basque prisons that, since October 1, the counselor
Beatriz Artolazabal (PNV)
manages
.
Jon Joseba Troitiño,
son and nephew
of two experienced ETA members, will be sent from Logroño to the Basque Country. Troitiño Cira, alias
Fredo
, was sentenced in 2011 by the National Court to 218 years in prison for having participated in the placing of
bomb packages in two hotels in Alicante and Benidorm
that injured 14 people and caused significant damage. The
effective sentence of 40 years
was handed down for the crimes of attempted murder and terrorist attacks.
Jon Joseba Troitiño is one of the prisoners included in the group referred to by
Arnaldo Otegi
on
October 18
in a
talk with militants
in the Guipuzcoan town of Eibar. The leader of EH Bildu confessed that his support for the Sánchez Government is directly linked to the release of the approximately 190 imprisoned gang members. But, in addition, he explained that he intends to promote a new reform of the Penal Code so that ETA members like Troitiño can receive sentences of up to 30 years compared to the 40 with which he was punished by a
reform of the Penal Code promoted by the PP Government in 2003
.
The approach of the second group of ETA members to the prisons already controlled by the Basque Government comes ten days after the group of ETA prisoners announced that they do not want public tributes to be celebrated to the inmates when they return home after serving their sentences.
The
etorris ongi
, denounced by the victims and by all the opposition parties except EH Bildu, will be replaced by
acts "in private"
.
