Close your eyes and let yourself be carried away by the smell of hot chocolate or feel the nerves of dreaming of a tenth of the winning lottery of hope.

Madrid can boast of being a great host.

Especially at Christmas.

Its streets are transformed during these dates and are filled, more than ever, with illusion and magic.

The capital dresses in its best clothes and designs a wide list of proposals for its citizens and visitors to enjoy some dreamy days. Madrid's shop windows make you fall in love with their offer of artisan products, unique and made with love; or with the latest technology in hightech stores. The

great musicals and theatrical works already shine with their lights on

Madrid's

Gran Vía

as well as the beautiful lights of the new Christmas tree in the recently inaugurated Plaza de España.

Christmas in Madrid is a tradition, with its different nativity scenes, the Plaza Mayor Christmas market, the 12 chimes at Puerta del Sol or the Three Kings parade, which brings the festivities to an end on January 6.

But it is also

innovation and creativity such

as the one that the musical shows that

fill the Gran Vía these days or the Circo Price Christmas circus

distill

, which presents a new installment of the Cometa trilogy, an endearing and fun universe that has earned the applause from thousands of viewers since 2018.

Lights and art in every street

Madrid is the best plan to enjoy these holidays as a family and it is thanks to the activities and plans it offers for all tastes and ages in a unique, cheerful and charming environment. The city wants to celebrate, this Christmas, the reunion and for this it dresses up. 25 streets of the capital will boast of a special lighting designed by various artists. In total,

the lights of Madrid will shine thanks to almost 6,700 chains, which is equivalent to about 147 kilometers, 118 cherry trees and 13 large luminous fir trees.

This Christmas, in addition, the new Plaza de España joins the list of these attractive locations with a large 18-meter natural fir tree that will illuminate Christmas in Madrid.

But this year you will also be able to enjoy an impressive 12 meter diameter ball of light - and 43,000 LED lights - right in front of the Metropolis building.

And if that were not enough, the Royal Botanical Garden will host until January 16 the exhibition "Nature On, Explorium": a total of

15 kilometers of LED lights that will turn the space into a dreamlike

and

special Atlantic Ocean full of marine beings and that will make the whole city shine this Christmas.

Yes, these days Madrid will be a party, and obviously there will be no lack of music. A must-see is the XXVII edition of "Grandes del Gospel", a festival that ends on December 12 and is already part of the capital's Christmas soundtrack. Other unavoidable events will be the Conde Duque or Matadero concerts. This Christmas, the

Plaza de Matadero will become an exceptional setting with a street arts program

that, beyond music, will delight locals with dance, circus or theater. On the other hand, for the more classical tastes, the city will offer different music recitals in its churches and parishes during the festivities.

And, if there is someone who wants to burn off the excesses of Christmas Eve dinner or the typical sweets of these dates, one more year, Madrid organizes the popular San Silvestre Race on the afternoon of December 31st.

Ten kilometers - with a slight descent - that runs through the financial center of the city and ends at the Nuevo Vallecas stadium, the birthplace of the Rayo Vallecano soccer club.

Hours later, the Puerta del Sol will end the year with its twelve chimes, followed by an incredible fireworks display throughout the city.

2022 will be ready to come into our lives and, surely, it will do so with a good chocolate with churros in hand.

Christmas with the family is always better

Without a doubt,

Christmas with children at home is, if possible, more special.

For them, for the little ones, Madrid offers plans full of culture and fun. They will be able to enjoy Madrid's Christmas to the fullest on one of its ice rinks or with the Forest of Desires, installed in the courtyard of the Royal Post Office. One more Christmas,

boys and girls will be able to write their wishes on paper balls and hang them from the fir branches to ask for their dreams of the new year

.

But if there is an appointment that marks Christmas, it is the traditional Cavalcade of the Magi.

On the afternoon of January 5, their three majesties will tour the streets of Madrid

in a spectacular parade that will be seen on Paseo de la Castellana

and will put the final touch on the Christmas celebrations in Plaza Cibeles.

Young and old alike will enjoy an amazing parade, hours before the Three Wise Men visit homes around the world and leave gifts for all the children.

But this is not all.

The magic in Madrid will continue to surprise us in the coming days

when new surprises are announced.

Be sure to check your Christmas agenda.
