A total of 36 people have been prosecuted for violence in connection with the Black lives matter demonstration in Gothenburg in June 2020. A large number of demonstrators had gathered at Heden but the demonstration was interrupted by the organizers after talks with police.

But some chose not to leave, and later violence broke out in central Gothenburg which degenerated into abuse, violence against officials and violent riots.

A large part of the evidence comes from films from police body cameras and drones, but also other films from store cameras and public films taken in connection with the events.

Convicted of violent rioting

One of the films shows a man balding a policeman with full force.

Before that, you see the same man hit another policeman with his fists.

The man has not been masked and he has not denied that it is him you see in the movies.

In the judgment you can read:

"He has stayed well ahead in the cluster that has acted most aggressively, shouted, run with the advancing crowd and also acted violently against people who were not police officers."

The man is sentenced in Gothenburg District Court for, among other things, assault, violent riot and violence against an official to eight months in prison.

He must also pay damages of SEK 5,905 to the policeman who was beheaded.

Trial in rounds

The trial against the 36 accused will be held in rounds during the autumn and early next year.

Previously, nine people have been convicted of various crimes, including violent rioting and arbitrary conduct.

Some have been sentenced to prison, others have received a suspended sentence or youth service.

In connection with the verdict against the 31-year-old, four more people are sentenced for, among other things, violent rioting and assault.

One is sentenced to three months in prison, the other to juvenile service and probation.

So far, a total of 14 people have been convicted in the case.

Trial of a new group of people begins next week.
