Tribal clashes in
Darfur,
in western
Sudan,
left
at least 138 dead on
the last three weeks, doctors said
Thursday.
Violence first erupted on November 17 between
armed camel herders
in the
Jebel Moon
Mountains of
West Darfur.
Other armed clashes broke out in the
Krink
region
,
also in West Darfur
,
on
Saturday
between rival groups.
"Many of the injured died because they were unable to reach medical facilities, and community clinics in rural areas are not equipped," reported the
Doctors Committee,
a union in the area.
According to the committee, the total death toll was 138, including 25 people who died Wednesday in Jebel Moon.
At least 106 were injured.
Darfur, a large region regularly plagued by fighting, mainly caused by
territorial disputes
and
problems of access to water,
