Faced with the situation of a "fractured left", the socialist presidential candidate of 2022 Anne Hidalgo proposed, Wednesday, December 8, the organization of a primary of the left "arbitrated by our fellow citizens".

"Let's organize a left-wing primary, which candidates who want to govern together come to participate in this primary," said the mayor of Paris, struggling in the polls.

Anne Hidalgo clarified that she would maintain her candidacy if her appeal was not heard.

"This fractured left, which despairs many of our fellow citizens must come together, come together to govern," said the candidate, who was not at all in favor of a primary within the PS a few months ago.

Anne Hidalgo promises to line up behind the winner

While the whole of the left capped at less than 25% of voting intentions, she estimated that "very many citizens" would like to participate, "because they wish to find hope".

"I took note of this situation. I know that if we do not make this rally there will be no possibility for this left to continue to exist in our country", she continued, explaining that for for her part, she will carry "the vision of a left-wing, social-democrat, environmentalist woman who has experience of management and unification".

At the end of this primary, "it will of course be necessary to campaign for the one who will be designated, and I will comply with this rule there", she explained.

The candidate had not wanted in recent weeks, like Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Yannick Jadot, to participate in the popular primary, launched by a citizen movement.

No left-wing candidate beyond 10% of voting intention

Arnaud Montebourg, who caps at 2%, made a little earlier him also a call to come together, by "offering" his candidacy "to" a common project ".

On the left, seven candidates are advancing for the time being on the starting line, if we retain only those who have a chance to gather the 500 sponsorships: the rebellious Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the ecologist Yannick Jadot, the socialist Anne Hidalgo, communist Fabien Roussel, champion of reindustrialisation Arnaud Montebourg, and anti-capitalists Philippe Poutou and Nathalie Arthaud.

In most polls, none exceeds 10% of voting intentions.
