Reconstruction of the USSR in the current political realities is impossible, said the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

So he commented on the words of the US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland that Moscow allegedly seeks to restore the Soviet Union.

“Ms. Nuland is well versed in Russian topics and in all the nuances of the post-Soviet space.

I am convinced that Mrs. Nuland, just like us and other specialists, understands perfectly well that the reconstruction of the Soviet Union is impossible, "Peskov emphasized.

At the same time, the Kremlin spokesman noted that "Mrs. Nuland probably knows" about the various integration processes that are taking place in the post-Soviet space.

“These are the Commonwealth of Independent States, and more advanced integration organizations, such as the EAEU, and even more advanced union structures, such as the Union State of Russia and Belarus.

But neither one nor the other, nor the third is an attempt to reincarnate the Soviet Union and cannot be, "Peskov emphasized.

The press secretary of the Russian president added that independent sovereign states have long been developing in the post-Soviet space, which treat each other with mutual respect, proceeding from the principle of non-interference in each other's affairs.

American dreams

On the eve of the US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland at a hearing in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee said that one of the motives for "military aggression against Ukraine" may be Moscow's desire to "recreate the Soviet Union."

“President Putin’s complaints about the collapse of the Soviet Union, expressed publicly and in frequent conversations, have grown louder and stronger over the years, and only in the last year, in the last six months, there have been more public comments in the sense that the sovereign state of Ukraine is in fact is part of Russia, belongs to Russia, and so on.

There are fears that in reality, as a project of his legacy, he seeks to restore the Soviet Union, and then will his appetite be satisfied with this, or will he want to go further? "

- said Nuland.

Victoria Nuland also answered the question about unprecedented sanctions.

“What we are talking about would be tantamount to the complete isolation of Russia from the global financial system - with all the unpleasant consequences that this would entail for Russian business, for Russians, for their opportunities in terms of work, travel and trade.

And we are considering a full range of options, ”the diplomat said.

At the same time, the US Deputy Secretary of State said that "diplomacy remains the best way to resolve the conflict in Donbass and consider other claims of the parties."

“The Minsk agreements offer the best foundation for negotiations, and the US stands ready to support renewed efforts if the parties welcome it,” said Victoria Nuland.

She also noted that Washington and Moscow have common areas in which they can productively cooperate.

“When the United States and Russia work together, as we are doing now on Iran and in the beginning negotiations on strategic stability, we offer our citizens and people around the world the prospect of a safer future,” Nuland said.

However, these joint efforts will be "jeopardized if President Putin chooses further aggression against Ukraine," said the US Deputy Secretary of State.

Washington has repeatedly stated about the Russian Federation's alleged desire to restore the USSR or expand Russia's borders to historical boundaries.

Moscow, in turn, emphasizes that such intentions exist only in the minds of the Western countries, and Russia stands for equal cooperation with the CIS states.

For example, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko at the beginning of this year, commenting on such statements, said that the West itself is trying to destabilize the situation in the states neighboring Russia and turn the post-Soviet space into a zone of constant conflicts and tensions.

“At the same time, sometimes we are accused of allegedly hatching plans to re-create the Soviet Union.

This is not true.

Moscow has consistently advocated equal and mutually beneficial cooperation with all post-Soviet countries, relying on existing traditional ties in various fields, ”the TASS diplomat quoted as saying.

A hackneyed topic

During the hearings with the participation of Nuland, American senators have repeatedly raised the topic of the "invasion" of Ukraine, which Russia is supposedly preparing to carry out.

Information about the plans for "Russian aggression" has been actively accelerated over the past few weeks by the Western media, while in their materials they rely on anonymous sources in the US or EU government circles, who are allegedly familiar with the data of American intelligence on this issue.

Earlier, the Financial Times reported that a number of European states, including Germany, did not consider the possibility of such an "invasion".

However, after prolonged diplomatic influence and the transfer of some intelligence information, the United States managed to convince its European allies that Russia was allegedly hatching plans to send troops to Ukraine, the newspaper pointed out.

Against this background, talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Joe Biden took place on the eve of the video link.

After that, the White House announced that Biden also announced his readiness to impose tough sanctions against Russia in the event of "aggression" against the Ukrainian side.

In turn, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said after the talks that Biden had promised to discuss with his NATO colleagues Vladimir Putin's concern over the expansion of the alliance to the east.

At the same time, Ushakov noted that Russian troops, contrary to the assertions of Western countries, do not threaten anyone.

“Russian troops are on their territory and do not threaten anyone, and the President of the Russian Federation spoke about this,” the Kremlin spokesman said.

"Space exploration"

Political scientist Alexander Asafov noted that the motive invented in Washington with the restoration of the USSR is needed as an ideological justification for pressure on Russia.

“If it was easy enough with the Soviet Union, since it was the source of world communism, then with the Russian Federation it was more difficult, since it is a democratic country.

It is for this reason that Washington came up with the term "revanchist power" in relation to Russia, because, in their opinion, it wants to return the foreign policy, economic success that the USSR had, "the expert explained.

This position continues the recent statement of NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg that Russia cannot have its own sphere of influence, the analyst emphasizes.

"Of course, this is a very imprudent statement, but in fact it implies that a certain role has been prescribed for Russia, the exit for which is uncomfortable for Western countries," the interlocutor of RT emphasized.

As soon as Moscow goes beyond this role, Western countries react with military reinforcement near the borders of the Russian Federation and accompanying accusations of revanchism, added Alexander Asafov.

After the collapse of the USSR, the USA themselves were very actively engaged in the "development" of the post-Soviet space, recalled the director of the Franklin Roosevelt Foundation for the Study of the United States at Moscow State University, Yuri Rogulyov.

“Russia is not making plans to either recreate the USSR or attack Ukraine, since there is no rational reason for this.

At the same time, the United States insists on its right to interfere in the affairs of the former Soviet republics, opposing its activities in the region to the activities of the Russian Federation - this is a convenient horror story for them, "the political scientist noted.

Yuri Rogulev expressed the hope that after the current tension, as well as after the peak of the Cold War, a period of detente will begin in relations between the two countries.

“I remember the period of detente in the 1970s, when both sides were ready to compromise and take into account the interests of each other.

I would like to believe that in the distant future the West will mature to such a position, and then the situation will change.

But today Russia needs to further strengthen the economy and strengthen the military component to be ready for any provocations, "the interlocutor of RT concluded.
