China News Service, Nanchang, December 6th (Reporter Li Yunhan) On the 6th, the reporter learned from the Jiangxi Provincial Department of Education that the province has recently issued the "Action Plan on the Pilot Work of Swimming Education for Primary and Middle School Students" (hereinafter referred to as the "Plan").

The "Plan" clarifies that by 2027, Jiangxi primary and secondary schools will carry out swimming education in an all-round way.

The "Plan" aims to guide and encourage primary and middle school students to learn swimming safety knowledge, master swimming skills, enhance their physical fitness, and effectively curb the occurrence of student drowning.

The "Plan" clearly stated that Jiangxi will start a swimming education pilot in 2022, and each districted city will select at least one county (city, district) with better conditions to conduct the pilot. The pilot targets are students from grade 4 to grade 6 in elementary schools.

Counties (cities, districts) where conditions permit can be rolled out without pilot projects.

From 2023 to 2026, all localities will gradually expand the proportion of swimming education in primary and secondary schools, in principle, increasing by 20% every year. By 2027, swimming education will be fully implemented in Jiangxi primary and secondary schools.

Schools that carry out swimming education in their schools carry out practical teaching in accordance with a total of not less than 10 class hours (90 minutes per class hour).

During the on-site teaching of swimming skills, the ratio of swimming coaches to students should not exceed 1:20. At the same time, the scene should be equipped with a specified number of lifeguards and medical staff.

In addition, the "Plan" requires that swimming training must be carried out in a swimming pool with a water quality standard and a depth of no more than 1.2 meters. It is strictly forbidden to organize primary and secondary school students to carry out swimming training in unsafe waters such as ponds, reservoirs, and rivers, especially to educate and guide rural school students Stay away from "wild ponds" and risky waters to prevent drowning incidents.

When conditions are ripe, all localities should include swimming as a selected subject for the high school entrance examination, as an important part of the comprehensive quality evaluation of students.

The "Plan" proposes that, depending on the actual situation, each region can rely on the teachers in the school to independently carry out swimming education; it can also be led by the education administrative department, through the purchase of services, entrust or hire a third-party training institution with professional qualifications to provide swimming education services.

In principle, the same training institution cannot provide swimming education services for more than 4 schools in the urban area to ensure the quality of swimming training.

At the same time, the Jiangxi Provincial Department of Education included swimming teacher training into the "provincial training plan", striving to complete the training of 6,000 swimming coaches and lifeguards within 5 years.

Encourage teachers of other subjects with swimming expertise to engage in swimming teaching part-time after obtaining relevant qualification certificates, and strive to build a team of professional and part-time swimming teachers.
