05 December 2021 Vaccinations for children from 5-11 years will be carried out in the hubs with dedicated paths and pediatricians will also be involved, as is the coordinator of the Technical Scientific Committee, interviewed by Fabio Fazio at "Che tempo che fa". The findings of the studies are absolutely "positive on the safety profile". Locatelli then intervenes on vaccine boosters: "That of a fourth dose is a non-excludable possibility. From December 16 the start of pediatric vaccinations for the 5-11 age group, the Coordinator of the CTS: "There will be dedicated paths within the vaccination hubs especially for the little ones who must be reassured '', and for the booking there will be a system "similar to that of adults: the involvement of pediatricians and families will be fundamental".        

"Vaccinating children is a priority to protect their health" - continues Locatelli - "this is a concept that as a pediatrician I want to emphasize: the findings on vaccines in pediatric age are absolutely positive on the safety profile, both in studies and in 'real world evidence' as in the United States ". 

Therefore, according to Locatelli, there are no warning signs: "The vaccines have been sufficiently tested: children must be vaccinated for their health" - he continues, underlining that "vaccinating one's children is a gesture of love that every parent has ".    

Christmas will be different from last year and the numbers say it: "Comparing December 5, 2020 with today, the death figures speak of 43 deaths against 662 of the same date a year ago" - positive also the findings on the occupation of hospitals: "We have 730 people in resuscitation against the over 3,500 of December 5, 2020: and the country is markedly more open in a year in which the predominant variant is the Delta".

"We do everything to protect schools" - claims the Coordinator of the CTS - "it is okay to foresee Dad when there are 3 cases of Covid in the classroom, because the epidemiological situation in Italy allows it".

On the subject of the possibility of a further vaccination, Professor Locatelli is not unbalanced but neither excludes it:" We do not yet know how long the protection lasts from the disease based on the evidence we will decide: a fourth dose is a non-excludable possibility, but now not on the agenda ". 

At the moment, the diffusion of the new Omicron variant is "absolutely limited" - concludes Locatelli, inviting prudence in evaluations: "Attention before drawing conclusions: third dose at three months as in Great Britain? The ideal is the one chosen by us at five months and that Aifa has approved for ages 18 and up ".
