The death of one resident of Lumajang district and burns of another 41 people were reported by the deputy head of the administration of the Indah Masdar district.
All victims were taken to the nearest hospitals.
Residents are being evacuated.
Earlier it was reported that the island of Palma was covered in ash due to a volcanic eruption.
