The spread of covid-19 is increasing in Europe.

Several countries have introduced restrictions or closed their borders in the past week, and even in Sweden it has been flagged that new austerity measures can be expected.

At the same time, the infection is raging in neighboring Norway.

In the last 24 hours, 4,191 new cases have been registered, which is the country's highest figure during the pandemic.

This is also the third time in the last week that record numbers have been noted.

Outbreak at Christmas table

On Saturday, it was also established that about 90 people have been infected with the coronavirus at a Christmas table in Oslo, where those participants must have been fully vaccinated.

The Norwegian Public Health Agency, FHI, states that 13 of the cases have been confirmed to be infected with the omicron variant.

And the number of confirmed infections with the new mutation now amounts to 19, FHI writes in a press release.

Another four of those confirmed infected have been travelers to Oslo Airport Gardermoen from South Africa.

- The most important thing now is that the infected and their close contacts follow the rules on isolation and quarantine, says Line Vold at FHI.

During the most recent seven-day period, an average of 3,235 cases were registered per day in Norway, a sharp increase compared to the previous seven-day period when 2,458 cases were registered.

262 patients with covid-19 are cared for in hospitals in the country, of which 68 receive intensive care.
