Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement "Hamas", said today, Saturday, that the issue of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons is a top priority for his movement.

This came in a speech during the launching of the session of the prisoners, martyrs and wounded on the third day of the 12th Pioneers of Jerusalem Conference, in the Turkish city of Istanbul, according to the official website of the movement.

Haniyeh said that the issue of prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons is a top priority and agenda of Hamas and the resistance.

He added that Hamas has 4 prisoners from the occupation in the hands of the Qassam (the movement's military arm), and that they "will never see the sun unless our prisoners enjoy the sun of freedom."

Haniyeh pointed out that the prisoners and martyrs are the victims of the Israeli occupation and its terrorism, but they also advanced and carried their lives on their hands with all meanings of heroism to defend their land.

Hamas keeps 4 Israelis, including two soldiers who were captured during the war on Gaza in the summer of 2014 (without disclosing their fate or health status), and the other two who entered the Strip under unclear circumstances during the past years.

Israel holds 4,650 prisoners in its prisons, according to data from the Palestinian Prisoners Club.
