The second round of the presidential election will pit the former student leader Gabriel Boric, who represents the new left, against the far-right candidate José Antonio Kast, defender of General Pinochet's dictatorship, on December 19.

Both have received, each on their own, the support of many political parties and public figures before this second round which promises to be very hotly contested.

The latest example is Peruvian writer and Nobel Prize for Literature Mario Vargas Llosa, who encouraged the far-right Chilean candidate on Friday.

This is a video posted by José Antonio Kast on his official account.

We see Mario Vargas Llosa, appointed last month to the French Academy, exchanging by videoconference with the Chilean far-right candidate.

After the recent victories of the left in Peru, Argentina, and Bolivia, the Peruvian writer hopes that the right will win in Chile, two years after the historic uprising against inequalities in the country: "

If Chile manages to reversing this trend will change things in Latin America, it will be very important for the center and the liberals.

So you have a huge responsibility!

 "

The candidate he is addressing is far from centrist, but the one who worries Mario Vargas Llosa is the former left-wing student leader Gabriel Boric, because he is allied with the Chilean Communist Party.

No socialist or communist country has succeeded, none!

So I hope we will win these elections.

"

Gracias por el apoyo to Mario Vargas Llosa.

Sabemos que lo mejor para el desarrollo de nuestro país, es la paz, el orden y el progreso.

During the presidential election in Peru this year, the conservative writer supported the right-wing populist candidate Keiko Fujimori, who was finally beaten in the second round.
