The Secretary of State for Justice Pablo Zapatero and the Secretary General for Innovation and Quality of the Public Justice Service Borja Vargues have presented their resignation to Minister Pilar Llop this Thursday, according to government sources to EL MUNDO.
The sources consulted explain that Zapatero's departure from Justice has its origin in the fact that he considers that "it was the moment to give way to a change in the ministerial team", after the change of portfolios that took place months ago between former minister Juan Carlos Campo and Pilar Llop.
The informant sources rule out that the resignation is due to a bad relationship with the current Minister of Justice but rather that they frame it on personal reasons by considering "a stage over."
It is a solution agreed upon by "mutual agreement".
Zapatero was appointed Secretary of State for Justice in January 2020 by former Minister Campo, with whom he maintained a personal friendship.
He is a professor of international law at the Carlos III University of Madrid, where he will foreseeably return after his time in the Government.
After the remodeling of the Government last summer, which led to the dismissal of Juan Carlos Campo, Minister Llop decided to keep him as her number two.
In fact, Pablo Zapatero was currently considered the strong man of the Ministry of Justice.
Along with him, another of the men who have played a key role in this department, Secretary General Borja Vargues, will leave the ministry.
