03 December 2021 "The Omicron variant of Covid-19 was sequenced for the first time in Veneto in the laboratories of the Zooprophylactic Institute of the Venezie - Izs".
The news is given by the president of the Region Luca Zaia. This is a male person, resident in the Vicenza area, who has returned from a business trip to South Africa. The patient, who is vaccinated, tested negative for a first swab done on return, but, perceiving some slight symptoms, he did a second one, which gave a positive result, highlighting the Omicron variant at the end of the sequencing.
At the moment he is paucisymptomatic in quarantine at home with his wife and two children.
Their wife and one of the two children are positive, also tested positive for the swab and paucisymptomatic.
For them, sequencing is still ongoing.
"We are on maximum alert on the whole front - underlines Zaia - and this novelty, not beautiful but expected, demonstrates that the network of controls, swabs and sequencing works effectively.
We are making our best efforts - adds the President - with an average daily of about one hundred thousand swabs and with an efficient sequencing system such as that of the ISS. We will continue with this control and prevention effort which has been, is, and will be fundamental ".
