“To prevent the spread of a new strain of coronavirus in Ukraine, we will today adopt a resolution that will prohibit the crossing of the Ukrainian border by citizens of countries where the spread of the new strain is now recorded.

These are South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Mozambique and a number of other countries, ”RIA Novosti quotes Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal as saying.

It is also prohibited to enter the country for persons who have been in the territory of these countries for at least seven days in the last 14 days.

The ban does not apply to those who live in Ukraine.

Earlier, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) announced that the omicron variant could account for more than half of all coronavirus infections in the European Union in the coming months.
