Health Minister Kai Klose (The Greens) delivered the good news on Thursday late on Wednesday evening after an agreement with the Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU): Hesse is receiving 100,000 more vaccine doses than previously known.

With them, for example, the last stalled vaccination offensive in Frankfurt should gain momentum again.

According to the state, Frankfurt receives 7,000 cans from the extra delivery.

This is also necessary, because the vaccination rate continues to barely noticeably increase.

In addition, the unpleasant message from the Ministry of Social Affairs is also this Thursday: There are more corona patients in intensive care beds than ever in the past few weeks and the free beds are decreasing. The number of patients with Covid-19 is stagnating in the normal wards. The seven-day incidence is climbing again. The incidence of hospitalizations, on the other hand, has fallen and is lower than a week ago. It reflects the number of Covid patients admitted to clinics within a week. A Hessian district remains above the 500 mark, while the vaccination rate is still barely making any headway.

According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, 313 Covid patients were last in intensive care units after 307 the previous day and 181 four weeks ago. Regardless of this, local capacity limits have been reached for some time, for example at the University Clinic in Giessen. And that doesn't just apply to intensive care beds for Covid patients, for whom the threshold is 200. 839 beds in Hessian normal wards are occupied by people who have been proven to have been infected with the coronavirus or who are suspected of having this. Four weeks ago there was talk of 551 normal beds occupied by Covid patients. A good 160 intensive care beds are still available, 46 of which are reserved for corona patients. A week ago it was 53.

There is a simple reason why the Ministry of Social Affairs regularly uses data from the previous day when it comes to bed occupancy: it only receives the new figures after its update has been published. The German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive and Emergency Medicine Divi speaks of 287 corona patients in intensive care beds, 119 of whom are invasively ventilated. However, the Divi regularly reports lower data than the country for this guideline value; This is justified with different counting methods. According to the ministry, the second benchmark, the so-called hospitalization incidence, is 3.89 after 4.24 the previous day and 4.59 a week ago; it has tended to fall slightly for days.

60.3 percent of the patients treated with Covid-19 in intensive care units in Hessen are only partially or not vaccinated at all and confirm the phrase "pandemic of the unvaccinated". 35.1 percent are fully vaccinated. This value has risen in the past few weeks. This has increasingly to do with the diminishing effectiveness of the vaccine after a few months and in many cases also with the fact that people have not been able to develop adequate immune protection because of other diseases or because their immune system is suppressed by medication. The vaccination status is unknown in 4.6 percent. A comparatively high value in view of the numbers from the previous weeks.

The vaccination rate stagnates after a minimal increase.

67.6 percent of the Hessian population are vaccinated, for those over the age of twelve it is 76.3 percent, as the state reports.

Experts believe that 85 to 90 percent are necessary to break the fourth wave.

Most recently, the city of Frankfurt had to stop special vaccination campaigns due to a lack of vaccines.

14 more deaths with Covid-19

As the ministry further reports, the Hessian health authorities recorded 3784 new infections overnight after positive PCR tests

after 1824 four weeks ago.

There were also 14 deaths in connection with Covid-19, a very high figure.

The seven-day incidence rose to a good 279 after a dip, four weeks ago it was 130. The Odenwald has the most cases under 100,000 inhabitants registered within a week with 605 with an upward trend, followed by Bergstrasse with 353.5 with a downward trend and Frankfurt with 370, the characteristic value also increases there.
