02 December 2021 Former Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz is reportedly about to leave politics.

This was reported today by various Austrian media such as the Krone Zeitung, according to which the birth of the son "made a difference" and "triggered something" in the former chancellor when he saw him.

Kurz, overwhelmed by the controversy following the investigation into the piloted polls paid for with public funds, resigned in October. It was the 35-year-old himself who asked President Alexander Van der Bellen to appoint Alexander Schallenberg, foreign minister since 2019, in his place. Kurz, however, remained leader of the Oevp People's Party and group leader in Parliament, roles that according to the Austrian press he intends to leave.

New secretary Oevp could become the interior minister Karl Nehammer.

According to Reuters, the former chancellor will release a personal statement at 11:30 am.
