A man is suspected of having caused a fire in his apartment on Wednesday morning in Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales), the police said Thursday morning.

The police had intervened a few minutes earlier, in his accommodation, when he was likely to attack his life.

On their arrival, the man is accused of having refused any dialogue with the police, and of having suddenly set his sofa on fire.

The flames quickly spread throughout her apartment.

Severely burned, the individual was extracted, not without difficulties, from the accommodation by the firefighters, while the police proceeded, as a precaution, to evacuate all the residents of the building, around forty people.

Two firefighters were seriously injured during the intervention, and several police officers were greatly inconvenienced by the fumes of smoke.

An investigation has been opened.
