In recent weeks, maternity care has been heavily criticized.

Redundancies and demonstrations have led to the region shaking up hundreds of millions extra as well as promises of one midwife per birth.

Now comes the news that a new maternity clinic can open in 2023. A new maternity clinic has been requested by the midwives who saw it as a prerequisite for a functioning care.

Previously, open at St. Göran's Hospital earlier than planned but could not give a definitive message.

- An assessment is made every year of the need for childbirth, we had probably seen this need come anyway but now we get it in place faster.

We should really not underestimate the midwives' efforts in raising the question of their work situation, it has meant a lot, says Anna Starbrink to DN.

Irene Svenonius (M) met protesters outside the regional house.

Without the commitment, the reforms would not have come as quickly, she says.
