The mayor of the district town of Erbach im Odenwald, Peter Traub (independent), is threatened by lateral thinkers after his statements on the closure of a café and a bakery on social media. The police now have to protect the mayor. As reported, the regulatory authorities of the city and the Odenwaldkreis had repeatedly asked the owner of the bakery and the café to comply with the rules to protect against the spread of the corona virus. Last Thursday, the café and bakery were finally closed by the authorities, which led to several demonstrations in which up to 200 “lateral thinkers” took part.

Several demonstrations against corona measures had already taken place in Erbach in the spring.

The mayor assigned the master baker to this scene.

Traub has been threatened on social networks since Monday.

Under the pseudonym “Jörg Löw” someone writes in Telegram: “Now it should be time to stand up to the traub.

Not like that!

However you do it, he has to feel the pressure. ”Or:“ Demo on his doorstep.

He has to be harassed. ”These entries have now been deleted.

Sale in the car in front of the shop

The police take the threats very seriously, says the press spokeswoman for the South Hesse police headquarters for the Odenwald district. The police are in close contact with the mayor. They learned of the threats on Monday evening and are now trying to identify the people who wrote in the chat. "We have taken some security measures," says the spokeswoman. For tactical reasons, however, the police could not provide any further details.

While the bakery and café were still closed on Wednesday and customers could only buy bread and rolls from a van in front of the café, attempts are apparently being made behind the scenes to defuse the conflict. The mayor had already announced on Monday that as soon as the master baker presented a conclusive hygiene concept and adhered to the requirements, he would be allowed to reopen. After all, 40 people are employed in the two factories. The concept is now available to the district's health department and is being examined.

In the meantime, the bakery continues to bake, because the company has sales vehicles that are on the move throughout the Odenwald.

The baker may continue to operate them, they are not affected by the closure order.

However, there is now a threat of new adversity.

For this Thursday, the master baker has advertised far beyond the borders of the Odenwald district to come to his café from 5 p.m., he will sell there again.

Mayor Traub is expecting several hundred participants from the so-called lateral thinker scene.

The threats against him have meanwhile resulted in too much solidarity from the population.

He also gets support from those who don't always share his opinion.

Meanwhile, Traub has filed a criminal complaint against the author of the threats.
