China News Service, Kuala Lumpur, December 1 (Reporter Chen Yue) The Malaysian Statistics Department released statistics on December 1: The country's happiness index in 2020 has dropped from 120.8 in 2019 to 118.3.

Affected by the epidemic, seven of the 14 specific indexes in the two major sectors of the society and the economy have fallen. Among them, the cultural happiness index, the leisure and entertainment happiness index and the income distribution happiness index have fallen particularly severely.

The country's social happiness index dropped from 115.4 to 114; the economic happiness index dropped from 130.7 to 126.2.

Most of the five indexes of the economic happiness index have declined. In particular, the income and distribution happiness index dropped by 9.7% from 2019 to 117.6; the traffic happiness index also dropped by 7.4% from 2019 to 127.7.

These two items are believed to be largely affected by the epidemic and control measures, which have caused "the country's socio-economic outlook to become unstable."

Other indexes such as education, communication, and working hours showed a slight increase, a slight decrease, or remained unchanged.

The social happiness index varies greatly regardless of the ups and downs.

Among them, the cultural index dropped by 16.1% compared with 2019, from 109.3 to 91.7; the leisure and entertainment index also dropped from 131.5 to 110.9, a decrease of 15.7%.

However, the public safety and health and well-being indexes in the social well-being index have increased significantly.

The statistics department pointed out that the crime rate and traffic accidents decreased during the epidemic last year, and the public safety happiness index increased by 10.9% compared with 2019, reaching 140.4. Under the epidemic, the public pays more attention to personal health and the health happiness index increased by 5.6% compared with 2019, reaching 113.1.

The rest, such as the environmental happiness index and the social participation happiness index, have also improved.

The Malaysian Happiness Index is an index set by the Malaysian government to measure the happiness of people’s lives in the economic and social fields.
