The pressure on train traffic between Uppsala and Stockholm is high, which makes the plans for four tracks welcome.

But before it is possible to start building them, the Swedish Transport Administration needs additional time to lay out a plan for costs and structure for the expansion.

- There are enough funds to prepare the railway plans until the revision in 2026, says Einar Schuch, director of the Swedish Transport Administration region east.

The plan is for the remaining funds to be added after the revision, when a clearer structure of what needs to be done, and how, is in place.

- We have chosen to also include Resecentrum in the plan to ensure that it can cope with the increased pressure in the future, says Einar Schuch.

Measures on the two existing tracks also need to be implemented.

"Always takes time"

But despite good news that the expansion is underway, there is frustration that it will take some time.

- Of course, we would prefer to see that it became clear now at once, but such processes always take time, says the chairman of the municipal board, Erik Pelling (S).

The Swedish Transport Administration's proposal will now be submitted for consultation until the end of February 2022, which means that no decisions will be made before then.
