The pilot project with test boxes where you can both pick up and leave self-sampling kits starts during the first part of December.

Five boxes will be placed outside hospitals and health centers in Upplands Väsby, Odenplan, Skärholmen, Danderyd and Jordbro.

- This is primarily a way to increase accessibility for the public, but it is also more cost-effective because fewer transports and less staff are needed, says Jimmy Stenmark, business developer at Karolinska University Hospital.

After evaluation, the region will decide whether the box model should be permanent, which can take place at the earliest in early 2022.

Already used in other regions

In regions such as Kalmar, Örebro and on Gotland, boxes with self-sampling have been in use for some time.

In Örebro, the boxes have become the only way to take samples in the region.

- This has replaced other sampling.

The test boxes are now available at all of the county's 30 different health centers.

For those who do not have e-identification, it is possible to book an appointment for sampling at the health center, says Maria Gunnarsson, coordinator for sampling covid-19.
