When SVT Nyheter Västmanland visits the women's house in the city, a woman with her children enters through the front door.

She smiles kindly and her children happily jump up the stairs to the upper floor.

The woman and her children are some of those who receive protection through the activity.

- It is the social services that are in contact with us and that decide whether a woman should be placed with us.

In some cases, when the man poses too great a threat to the family, the women can also be placed in a residence in another municipality, says Elin Hedén.

She has worked at the women's house for more than 20 years and has supported and guided a large number of women and girls over the years.

- It is such a rewarding job.

When a woman or a girl walks out of here and says that she no longer needs us and that she has now found her place in society again - it's fantastic, she says in the clip.
