The far-right polemicist Eric Zemmour formalized, Tuesday, November 30, his candidacy for the presidential election of April 2022 to “

save

” France, in a ten-minute video posted on social networks.

This widely awaited announcement follows several hectic pre-campaign months for the former columnist of Figaro and CNews.

“

It is no longer time to reform France, but to save it.

This is why I decided to run for the presidential election

, ”he said in the video with its dramatic tone and nostalgic accents.

A reference to France in the 1950s

“

We are a great people.

We will not allow ourselves to be replaced, we will not allow ourselves to be colonized,

”said the 63-year-old former journalist in a staging reminiscent of a famous shot of General de Gaulle, against a background of retro images incensing the story of France, "

a great country which is in the process of disappearing

 ".

Eric Zemmour read his statement with reference to 1950s France, supporting archival footage interspersed with images of violence and urban riots.

Preserving our lifestyles

 "

On the 2nd movement of Beethoven's 7th Symphony, the polemicist, in a pre-campaign for several months, explained that he was presenting himself "

so that our children and our grandchildren do not know barbarism, so that our daughters are not veiled, and that our sons are not subjected, so that we can transmit to them France as we knew it and received it from our ancestors, so that we can still preserve our ways of life, our traditions, our language, our conversations, our controversies over history, or fashion, our taste for literature

 ”.

Widely awaited, this announcement follows several months of media interventions during which the far-right essayist exposed his political vision based on the denunciation of immigration.

In this kind of agitated pre-campaign, it experienced the first backlash in the polls.
