The Pas-de-Calais department was placed on orange vigilance on Sunday morning for "flooding" reported Météo France, with flooding of the Lys, Lawe and Clarence rivers.

Since the night of Saturday to Sunday, "significant rainfall has fallen on Hauts-de-France and should last until early Sunday afternoon," reported the Vigicrues site. 

In Pas-de-Calais, "the Lys upstream and Lawe-Clarence rivers", tributaries of the Escault, "have started to react to this precipitation and localized overflows are observed in these sectors".

"The levels of these rivers should continue to rise this afternoon and significant overflows could occur" on these sections ", warned Vigicrues. 

Significant flooding is possible

Under these conditions, "significant flooding is possible" which could affect traffic conditions, the electricity supply or submerge the dikes, recalls the site.
