The Moderates in Skåne have their nomination meeting at the Malmö Live concert hall and will choose which names will be on the ballot papers for the Riksdag and the regional council next year.

- On Saturday afternoon, we will also have a nomination election for the Malmö City Council, says Peter Ollén (M), district chairman in Malmö.

He expects that the nomination committee's top candidate Helena Nanne will top the list in Malmö.

- I have said that I am available but do not want to say more before the members have voted, says Helena Nanne.

Steps directly into the top post

Helena Nanne currently works as a political secretary for the Moderates in Region Skåne.

She has been a member of the municipal board and municipal council in Malmö since 2014.

If Helena Nanne takes over the leadership shirt for the Moderates in Malmö, it means that she will take over the post as opposition councilor.

In that case, she succeeds Håkan Fäldt, who was allowed to step in when Torbjörn Tegnhammar left his political assignments last summer following accusations of sexual harassment.

SVT Nyheter spoke at the end of August with four women, who said that they had been subjected to sexual harassment by Tegnhammar.

Torbjörn Tegnhammar declared his resignation on Facebook on Friday 20 August.

"Tonight I have informed the municipal council group in Malmö, as well as the Moderates' party leadership, that out of concern for my family and the party, I choose to resign immediately.

I will not comment further at this time.

I will return eventually with my story. ”

The next day, Peter Ollén said in an interview with SVT Nyheter that he welcomed the decision and that Torbjörn Tegnhammar "put himself in an unsustainable situation".

The election of a new opposition council in Malmö will be formally announced at the City Council on 21 December.
