In the early hours of Saturday morning, the Sudanese authorities released senior officials who had been arrested after the decisions of Army Commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan on October 25, less than a day after the start of a hunger strike.

This came in a brief statement issued by the Ministry of Information for the isolated government, which was published on the official documented page of the ministry on the social networking site "Facebook".

The statement said that the "coup" authority released Minister of Cabinet Affairs Khaled Omar Youssef, Governor of Khartoum State Ayman Khaled Nimr, and the Financial Commissioner of the Empowerment Removal Committee (governmental) Maher Abu Al-Goukh.

The Sudanese Congress Party said that Youssef and others began a hunger strike to protest their continued detention, despite the signing of an agreement between military leaders and civilian Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok to release all civilian detainees.

There is no figure announced by the Sudanese authorities for the number of political detainees in the country since the actions of the General Commander of the Army, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, more than a month ago.

agreement and protest

The army's control of power led to the freezing of a power-sharing agreement between the army and civilians from the Forces of Freedom and Change coalition, and the arrest of a number of ministers and senior civilian officials.

Yesterday, Friday, the authorities released 5 political detainees, including Fayez Al-Sulaik, former media advisor to the Prime Minister, Abdullah Hamdok, and the leader of the Professionals Association, Muhammad Naji Al-Asam, according to local media.

Protests continued calling for the army to leave the political scene and hold it accountable for the deaths of civilians in the demonstrations, after the agreement concluded by the army with Hamdok, and a call was issued to organize more mass protests tomorrow, Sunday.

The Central Committee of Sudan Doctors said late on Friday that 63 people were injured during the dispersal of Thursday's protests, including one who was shot in the city of Bahri.

The political agreement included a set of points, including the release of political detainees (French)

agreement and support

In a context related to political developments, the head of the National Umma Party in Sudan, Fadlallah Barama Nasser, announced his support for the agreement signed between Al-Burhan and Hamdok, which contradicts the positions of the National Umma Party, which announced its rejection of the agreement.

Barma described the agreement as meeting the aspirations of the Sudanese people, and that it succeeded in restoring the course of democratic life, returning Hamdok to his work, and releasing political detainees.

The Sudanese party official attributed the reasons for Al-Burhan's coup to the practices of parties that were arguing with the army, as he put it.

On October 25, a severe crisis erupted in Sudan, as the Commander-in-Chief of the army, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, declared a state of emergency, dissolving the Sovereignty Councils and the Transitional Ministers and releasing the governors, following the arrest of party leaders, ministers and officials, as part of measures described by political forces as a military coup.

However, the army chief and the head of the transitional government, Abdullah Hamdok, signed a new political agreement, last Sunday, according to which Hamdok should return to his post about a month after his dismissal.

The political agreement also included an agreement to release all political detainees, and the two parties pledged to work together to complete the democratic path, with the 2019 constitutional document as the main reference in the next stage.
