Tunisia.. Armed with a knife and a machete tries to storm the headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior

A person armed with a machete and a knife tried in front of the Tunisian Ministry of the Interior today, Friday, to attack policemen who fired rubber bullets at him, according to eyewitnesses and the police.

"He had a cleaver in one hand and a knife in the other, and he ran towards the entrance to the Ministry of Interior, shouting God is great," a policeman said.

"He was trying to attack the policemen in front of the ministry," he added.

One of the witnesses stated, "He was about fifty meters away from the ministry and the police officers threw barriers at him, but he continued running and threatened the police with his knife and cleaver."

A video clip taken by a passerby showed a bearded man in his thirties running towards the Ministry of Interior, while some passers-by panicked and shouted for police to shoot him.

One of the policemen told AFP that rubber bullets were fired, and he was brought under control and taken to a hospital in the capital.

As a result of the incident, security forces were deployed on Habib Bourguiba Street and in front of the Ministry of the Interior, according to an AFP correspondent.
