One of the few motions that the Sweden Democrats' party board demands approval of at the national meeting in Karlstad is that of chemical castration.

Or as what is really about a hormone treatment of sex offenders.

- The proposal comes from SD women and the party board has chosen to approve, it is based on the studies that have been done and above all reference is made to a study from Karolinska Institutet that shows good results in terms of recidivism risk, says Tobias Andersson who sits on the party board .

He continues:

- Since then, we have previously advocated detention sentences for people who risk relapse into crime, so this would be a further complement to existing policies.

The study referred to was published last year and shows that a syringe with a drug for prostate cancer reduces the risk of men with pedophilic disorder wanting to rape children.

"A care option"

According to Swedish Radio, chemical castration exists today as an imposed punishment in about ten countries in the world.

Most recently in 2017, KD opened so that chemical castration could also be imposed in Sweden.

According to Tobias Andersson, it is also intended from SD's side as a help for those who suffer from the attraction to children.

- I am convinced that there are people who suffer from an attraction to children who feel terribly bad about it and have been able to volunteer for this type of treatment.

So it is not always about a sanction but a possibility of care.

According to Christoffer Rahm, leader of the KI study, one can see in the preparatory work for the law of forensic psychiatric care that it is already today not excluded to use the drugs.

But this is not done as many doctors see it as ethically questionable, he says.

- It is my opinion that most people refer to it.

You want to have it on a voluntary basis, otherwise it is difficult to know if you are successful with the treatment because it is based on having a reasonably good dialogue with the patient.

Voting on chemical castration, and other legal policies, begins at 9 p.m.
