November 25, 2021 "We know how insidious the playoffs are and we have discovered it in the past on our skin, but we must face them with serenity, rediscovering the sense of our strength. Having the possibility of playing both games at home would be better, if the draw lend a hand we would like to play the two games in one place ".



Thus, at a press conference, FIGC president Gabriele Gravina spoke about the draw for the World Cup playoffs scheduled for tomorrow in Zurich, at 5pm.



The play-off formula


The twelve teams will be distributed in three mini-groups, with semi-finals and finals in one-off matches in March, respectively on 24-25 and 28-29. The six seeded players, including Italy, will have the advantage of playing the first match at home, but the venues for the three finals will be designated by drawing lots.



Possible opponents


Italy will face one of the following national teams in the semifinals: Turkey, Ukraine, Poland, North Macedonia, Austria or the Czech Republic. The other five seeded are Portugal, Sweden, Scotland, Wales and Russia.



Qatar 2022, the national teams already qualified


With Qatar (organizing country), there are a total of 13 national teams already qualified for the 2022 World Cup: for Europe Serbia, Spain, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Denmark, Holland, Croatia, England and Germany;

for the South American group Brazil and Argentina.
