November 25, 2021French fishermen will block ferry arrivals in 3 Channel ports: Saint-Malo, Ouistreham and Calais. While on the mainland they will block the access of freight trucks to the terminal of the Channel Tunnel. This is a new escalation of the conflict between France and Britain post-Brexit over fishing licenses.

A "warning shot"

The mobilization day was defined by the Fishermen's Committee as a "warning shot" and aims to ask London for the swift granting of fishing licenses.

The licensing diatribe

After the exit of Great Britain from the European Union, many French fishermen no longer have access to British waters or to those of the Jersey and Guernsey Islands: these are 150 licenses that London refuses to grant, due to lack of documents "proving the 'anteriority of the activity of these French boats in English waters ".

The London position London

asked the counterpart for the GPS data that small fishing boats and new owners claim they are unable to provide. The European Commission also moved last Wednesday, asking the British government to resolve the dispute by 10 December. France raised its tone earlier this week by urging the Commission to be more active in resolving the conflict.

The details of the protest

The French fishermen will block three ports tomorrow: Saint-Malo (early in the morning), Ouistreham (early afternoon) and Calais (from 12-14).

The entrances to the Channel Tunnel will also be manned between 2pm and 4pm.
