The European Union must be ready to take further sanctions against Moscow if the situation in eastern Ukraine or on the border between Belarus and Poland worsens, the German Chancellor said on Thursday (November 25th). Angela Merkel.

Speaking at a joint press conference in Berlin with her Polish counterpart Mateusz Morawiecki, Angela Merkel said the EU must be united on issues of Belarus' "militarization" of migrants against Poland and the deployment of troops by Russia near its border with Ukraine.

"Any further aggression against Ukraine's sovereignty would come at a high price," Chancellor said, adding that de-escalation should always be the option
