The Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor of the US State Department said that President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken are working to advance the role of human rights in foreign policy, and that this will be reflected in the US relationship with Bahrain.

The office indicated that there is an ongoing dialogue with the Bahraini government on human rights issues that are being raised in Manama or Washington.

The US authorities also called on the Bahraini government to release detainees who are elderly and have chronic diseases.

The Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor stated that work is underway to ensure that no security assistance is provided to Bahraini forces implicated in human rights violations.

The office said a large number of dissidents, particularly those involved in the 2011 unrest, were still detained.

This statement came in response to a query submitted by Republican Representative of the US state of Indiana, Larry Buchon.
