November 24, 2021 Surprise and disillusionment.

The pandemic resumes its front pages in Europe and these are the feelings that seem to prevail, amid announcements of new restrictions, closures, fatigue and numbers that worry again: again more than 30 thousand infected in 24 hours in France, where even the first Minister Castex is in self quarantine at home and President Macron is chairing another Health Defense Council today

Le Parisien

Fifth shocking wave. Doctors are also surprised. This morning the Health Defense Council, yesterday 30 thousand infected. For scientists, the need for new measures cannot be ruled out. On the president's table, several sensitive points: generalization of the third dose, extension of the areas of use of the mask, teleworking and strengthening of controls. The government intends to question everything - in particular to limit gatherings, including political meetings - but it seems to reject the idea of a new confinement

L'Humanité

Fifth wave, is France ready?

the Directorate-General for Health says hospitals likely won't be able to handle a large influx of patients by Christmas and suggests that caregivers be incorporated into hospitals. Since March 2020, the date of the first confinement, not only has nothing changed, but everything seems even more obscure and in the process of accelerating dismemberment. The plans for restructuring, merging and, with them, the removal of beds are continuing against all logic, while the lack of staff is now leading to the closure of services. Very few public bodies escape an unprecedented phenomenon of "health desertion". About 100,000 public hospital service professionals are missing.

Fifth Wave: Mandatory Telework Makes Government and Entrepreneurs Cough

"The return of compulsory teleworking, as in Belgium, would be a mistake", repeats Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux, president of Medef, who fights so that companies can choose the organization of work for themselves. This cannot be the solution to stem the epidemic: just 20% of employees are now teleworking. However, teleworking would reduce the risk of infection by 25%. If Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux is so firm on the subject, it is because several company executives have told him about their difficulties: after the confinements, in companies, it was not always easy to bring employees back to the site. Now that the employees are here, it's about not taking the risk of losing them again. The culture of Presentialism remains strong in France. Many companies have signed statutes or even agreements with defined telecommuting days, rarely beyond two a week. These negotiations have not always been easy to conduct, many do not want to go back.

Astra Zeneca vaccine could give longer protection than other vaccines.

The paper says AstraZeneca is gearing up to release new research on its vaccine's impact on immune T cells, which could continue after antibodies drop.

This would explain why European countries are suffering from more infections than the UK has so far experienced.

The Robert Koch Institute updates the incidence with a new high of 404 and the number of new infections per day to 66,884. Friedrich Merz, candidate for president of the CDU, pronounces in favor of a lockdown for the unvaccinated. The prime minister of the Bavarian CSU Markus Söder and Winfried Kretschmann, the green prime minister of Baden-Württemberg, are jointly calling for mandatory vaccination for all. For Kretschmann, renouncing general compulsory vaccination will mean that "we are all paying a higher and higher price for a small part of the population that takes the liberty of rejecting the vaccination offer"

More and more doctors are urgently feeling the overload of the healthcare system. Many patients have to be transported far away. The Weekend: Until then, the president of the State Medical Association of Saxony, Erik Bodendieck, predicts that Saxon clinics will be overloaded. Of course, every patient will be treated. "The only question is what can be done. If two patients in need of ventilation compete for an intensive care seat, then a decision must be made as to which patient has the best chance of coping," Bodendieck says.

Doctors in Saxony have already been looking for places for stroke or heart attack patients for hours.

review of Get Back, Peter Jackson's Beatles movie

Joyful, boring, euphoric and fabulous, "The Beatles: Get Back" feels like a documentary made yesterday instead of 52 years ago, an epic retelling and in-depth analysis by director Peter Jackson of the studio sessions of "Let It Be", the famous rooftop concert, and the disbandment of the band due to Yoko Ono, or the ego of Paul McCartney, or the cheating of manager Allen Klein, or the frustrations of George Harrison. None of this is true from what we see, which is often chaotic but more often bliss. The Beatles took three weeks to record Let It Be and a TV special, which was never made. But 60 hours of footage and 120 of audio recordings remain. It's not the "Let It Be" story. It's the most beatle-maniacal epic you can imagine, partly because it renders the band's creative process so naked and presents their personalities so deeply: Mr. McCartney is the dominant force, his patronizing attitude towards Harrison prompts the latter to leave the band for a few days mid-film; Mr. McCartney then backs off, with admirable effect. Lennon, with Ms. Ono always by his side or at his feet, is not the abrasive or sarcastic character he presented in, say, "A Hard Day's Night" but is sweet, funny, deferential towards his longtime partner. / no longer songwriter (even if everyone collaborates on everything). Starr is everyone's friend.his paternalistic attitude towards Harrison prompts the latter to leave the band for a few days in the middle of the film; Mr. McCartney then backs off, with admirable effect. Starr is everyone's friend.

One of the most poignant sequences in the documentary, in fact, involves a microphone hidden in a flowerpot that captures a private conversation between Lennon and Mr. McCartney, discussing Harrison's return to the band and the problems existing within it. ("The Beatles have been in the doldrums for at least a year," Mr. Starr has already noted, apparently referring to the loss of Epstein.) Harrison will return, Mr. McCartney predicts: "and probably, when we are all very old, we will all be agree and we will return to sing together ". It's heartbreaking, thinking that Lennon was murdered in 1980; Harrison died of cancer in 2001.

Landing and Punishment

The authorities have determined which IT giants will need offices in the Russian Federation

Izvestia found out which foreign companies will have to comply with the "disembarkation" law, that is, create representative offices in the Russian Federation to interact with the authorities. The Russian Telecommunications Authority Roskomnadzor has compiled a register, which includes 13 foreign establishments that own 22 information assets, including Google (among its services - Google Play, YouTube, YouTube Music, Google Chat, Gmail), Apple (iCloud, App Store, Apple Music), Meta Platforms, formerly Facebook (social network itself, Instagram, WhatsApp), Twitter, TikTok, Telegram, Zoom, Viber, Spotify, Likeme Pte. Ltd (Like), Discord, Pinterest, Twitch. To interact with the authorities, they need to register in a special personal account, the Russian supervisor stressed. For non-compliance with the requirements by the IT giants, sanctions are expected, up to the blocking of their services in Russia.

Fundamental requirement of the law on "landing" with foreign digital companies with daily traffic in the Russian Federation of 500 thousand users and more - the creation by January 1 of authorized representative offices with which Roskomnadzor will interact on compliance with the law through a special personal account (the department will open access to it on November 22). They should also place an electronic Russian user feedback form on their website, install a traffic counter recommended by Roskomnadzor on the information resource. At the same time, foreign companies are obliged to restrict access to information that violates Russian law.

The list of such information for social networks, both foreign and Russian, contains another law: "On information, information technologies and information protection". Among the prohibited contents are child pornography, information on the sale of drugs, incitement to suicide, materials of organizations whose activities are recognized as undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation, appeals to riots and more.

Failure to comply with the "landing" law entails penalties for digital companies. Among the obligations is to inform users in the search results of the violation by foreigners of Russian legislation, prohibition of distribution of advertising by foreigners and prohibition of its placement on its resources, restriction on transfers of money in their favor, prohibition of collection and cross-border transfer of personal data and, finally, partial or total limitation of access to services. To minimize the problems of foreign digital companies and resolve controversial issues as quickly as possible, you need a personal account.

António Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, this week arrived in Colombia where he will participate for two days in various initiatives including the commemoration of the fifth anniversary the signing of the definitive peace agreement between the government and the former FARC guerrilla.

On his arrival, the Secretary General stated that it is a visit "in solidarity with the Colombian people who today give the world a very important example of the affirmation of peace" precisely at a time when "unfortunately we are witnessing so many conflicts".

He also stressed the country's support for Venezuelan migrants. "I want to pay tribute to the Colombian government and people for the generosity with which almost two million Venezuelans who remain in Colombia and receive the Statute of Temporary Protection have been welcomed".

Guterres was received by the Vice President and Foreign Minister, Marta Lucía Ramírez, by various members of the government and by the representative for the United Nations in Colombia, Carlos Ruiz Massieu. "It is very important because what it does precisely is endorse all the progress that the implementation of that agreement has achieved."

During his visit Guterres will participate, together with the Colombian president, Iván Duque, to the members of the government and those of the former guerrilla, in the territorial space for the formation and reincorporation (ETCR) of Llano Grande, in Antioquia, one of the places that were enabled so that the peace signatories could start their new life.

There, he will meet the president of the party of municipalities and former commander of the extinct FARC, Rodrigo Londoño "Timochenko".

This is the third visit by a UN Secretary-General to Colombia and the second by Guterres, who has already visited the country in 2018 with the same purpose of verifying the implementation of the peace in one of his first trips to office.
