• Andalusia The metal sector begins the second week of strike far from the agreement with the employer

  • Protests The pickets of the Cádiz metal strike act in the main industries of the province on their fifth day of strike

A man died this morning when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a truck at the access to the port of Algeciras (Cádiz).

Civil Guard

sources

have confirmed that the man has died after colliding with the motorcycle he was piloting with a container truck that was stopped on the northern access bridge to the port of Algeciras.

The deceased in the accident, which occurred at 8.35 am, is

a port worker

.

The armed institute has indicated that the truck was

stopped as a result of the roadblocks

that are taking place due to the actions of the informational pickets on the occasion of the indefinite strike in the metal sector.

Since the beginning of the mobilizations, which are now one week old, there have been cuts in the accesses to the APM container terminal in the port of Algeciras, which generates retentions in the northern access bridge.

The Civil Guard, the Cádiz Province Firefighters Consortium, health services, the Algeciras Local Police and the Port Police have traveled to the scene of the accident.

Hard fighting since this morning

The

Police

and the protesters from the metal sector have clashed since this morning in the

Bazán de San Fernando neighborhood (Cádiz)

at the beginning of the seventh consecutive day of strike.

The informational pickets tried this morning, as they did on Saturday, to cut traffic on the iron bridge, the only road access to the

Navantia

shipyard

in San Fernando, but they were met with a huge police deployment that tried to guarantee free access to all workers to their job.

The protesters have spread through the Bazán neighborhood and have taken advantage of the opening of the police deployment to

burn containers and leave burning barricades

on the asphalt, which has caused that, at times, traffic has been cut off.

These altercations have caused, according to union sources, that several buses that transported workers to the factory have decided not to enter the road to the plant and return the employees to their homes.

Meanwhile, in Puerto Real, a picket with union representatives gathers at the doors of

Dragados

to denounce the "pressure" that some employees are suffering from this company to go to their jobs, according to CC.OO spokesmen.

and UGT.

The secretary of FICA UGT, Antonio Montoro, has asked this morning "responsibility" to the employers' association FEMCA to reach an agreement soon that avoids more economic damages to the workers and the very companies it represents.

Employers and unions negotiate again

This afternoon the

Federation of Metal Entrepreneurs of Cádiz (Femca)

and the unions of the sector return to the negotiating table to try to find an agreement that ends the indefinite strike.

After the two negotiating tables held last week, in which no agreement was reached to unblock the conflict, the Andalusian Council of Labor Relations, the labor mediation body of the Junta de Andalucía, has once again convened the parties to a new meeting at its headquarters in Seville at 6:00 p.m.
