Abu Dhabi Police revealed that the total number of convicts under electronic police surveillance amounted to 217 convicts since the beginning of the year until the end of last October, noting that the electronic bracelet is an integrated technical program, through which it is possible to monitor convicts against whom judgments issued by judicial authorities, and is an important means of implementing the provisions of supervision on The different types of cases, and the geographic scope, times and rules imposed on those under observation, based on the merits of court rulings and the prosecution’s decisions.

Abu Dhabi Police launched electronic monitoring technology in October 2017, and it was implemented in January 2018 as an alternative to imprisonment in the final rulings issued by the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, while the cases covered by electronic monitoring varied between drug abuse cases, traffic cases, checks without balance, and juvenile cases , and others.

Abu Dhabi Police indicated that these innovative services provide more effective options in the process of reform and social reintegration, to maintain positive relations for the convicts by replacing the penalties of detention with social measures that achieve the societal interest, and give the convicts the opportunity to express their positive traits, their ability to change, and the opportunity for them to to complete their lives.

She clarified the positive impact of electronic monitoring in enhancing social sustainability and the economic dimension, through its role in maintaining family cohesion and the continuity of the convicts in their daily work, such as working and learning within a specific scope, in addition to protecting against criminal behaviour.

Abu Dhabi Police launched the electronic monitoring project, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, as an alternative to imprisonment, where the electronic bracelet is used to determine the geographical scope and times, and the rules imposed on those under surveillance, to be present or refrain from it based on the merits of judicial rulings and decisions of the prosecution.

She said that electronic monitoring is a humanitarian project, and one of the innovative security services in which a police monitoring and follow-up device is used, which meets all health, legal and humanitarian requirements, and conforms to international specifications specific in this field.

The implementation of the provisions of the electronic bracelet began according to what was stated in Administrative Decision No. 281 of 2017 regarding the application of electronic monitoring, and in accordance with the Federal Decree Law No. 17 of 2018 amending some provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure promulgated by Federal Law No. 35 of 1992, according to which the provisions issued by the Department of The judiciary, and the application of electronic monitoring through the electronic bracelet to those covered by these provisions instead of pretrial detention.

The electronic bracelet contributes to the implementation of punitive and correctional policies, in order to ensure the implementation of penalties, without harming the entity of the convict and his family.
