A British nurse has been sentenced to prison for stealing a patient's card, paying off debts and buying beds.

On the 20th local time, foreign media such as Metro UK reported that Leanne Wallis, 40, a nurse who worked at a university hospital in Stockton-Ontis, Durham, England, was sentenced to one year and two months in prison for fraud.

According to the report, Wallace took out the credit card of Leslie Rushworth, 84, a patient he was caring for, in July last year, paid off a loan of 900 pounds (about 1.43 million won), and bought a bed for a total of 1,700 pounds. Pounds (about 2.71 million won) were used.

Leslie died 13 days after being hospitalized on July 3 last year due to pneumonia, loss of appetite, and mental health problems.

Wallace's crimes were uncovered by Mr. Leslie's son, Guy Rushworth, 46.

Guy found several messages from the bank on his father's cell phone. Suspicious of this, he looked at the transaction through the bank app and found out that the card payment had been made when his father was hospitalized.

Afterwards, Guy confirmed that the bed he bought with his father's card was delivered to Wallace's house and, convinced that it was a crime, reported it to the police.

Wallace initially denied the crime.

A cell phone was later submitted, but all records prior to the incident were deleted.

"Mr. Leslie, who was generous with me, said he would pay off my debt. The bed was also ordered by him," Wallace said.

However, police investigations revealed that Wallace had drawn the card without Leslie's consent.

Wallace was accused of committing the crime after experiencing financial hardship after the breakup of her marriage.

Although he has now been fired from the hospital, it is known that he continues to work as a caregiver.

The court ruled, "The selfish behavior of the accused ruined a family's last moments with their father. He betrayed the trust of the patient and tarnished the honor of the nurses working in this country."

"I never dreamed that a person in charge of caring would do something like this," Guy said.

This is a 'news pick'.
