The ICCN is a public establishment which manages the 82 protected areas of the DRC, including the ten national parks and five sites inscribed on the world heritage of humanity.

After the appointment of new ICCN leaders, it's time to launch projects.

ICCN announces the start of work on the census of plant and animal species, through an inventory of flora and fauna.

Olivier Mushiete, the new general manager, is also working on a project to create Congo Air Nature.

The mission of this new airline will be to reduce the distances between protected areas and make them accessible.

Olivier Mushiete maintains that this will ensure a better aerial reconnaissance service.

The other flagship project concerns security.

The stated ambition is to increase the number of park wardens from 3,200 to over 6,000 within six years.

Parts of Congolese parks are now illegally occupied.

ICCN wants to strengthen its role in the protection of peatlands, these immense terrestrial carbon reserves.

The idea is to create a dynamic of solidarity for the protection of an area which goes from the city of Kisangani to that of Mbandaka, that is to say a stock of approximately 40 giga tons of carbon to be protected.

Congolese experts will meet to determine this protection work before launching international advocacy.

The DRC is preparing to submit its candidacy to organize the preparatory meeting for COP 27 next year.
