In 1918, the Riksdag decided to introduce universal and equal suffrage for all adults in Sweden, both men and women.

The decision entailed a change in Sweden's constitution and therefore did not enter into force until 1921. The first five women in Sweden's Riksdag could thus take a seat in 1922.

The exhibition "Celebrate democracy!"

shown around the country during 2019-2022.

The exhibition, which will be shown at Jamtli in Östersund until 17 January, was inaugurated on Sunday by, among others, Speaker of the Riksdag Andreas Norlén.

- We are celebrating a democracy anniversary throughout this term.

I think it is important to remember the history and learn from the successes that were 100 years ago, but also have it as a starting point for a discussion about democracy today and tomorrow, says Andreas Norlén.
